Looking for a low maintenance side hustle? You may have already put in the work for this one. If you have ever written out a bunch of information on your city for your friends, if you are a travel influencer, or if you are an Air BnB host and you have written a city guide for your guests, you already have it. Now, you can monetize that valuable information. If not, a really great place to start is making a list of your favorite restaurants with one sentence for each one explaining why you love it. That's a guide! Example guides here.

All you need to do is set up your online store today and upload your digital resources (pdf files). Use your knowledge of any place you've lived or frequently visit and create as many guides as you can think of. However, you only need one guide to open your store and start collecting income. Sellers get 70% of the revenue, which will never decrease. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE FIRST 30 STORES TO OPEN, YOU CAN LOCK IN 80% OF THE REVENUE FOREVERMORE! You set your own prices and can adjust later if needed. Sellers get paid in PayPal Business accounts. It is very easy to set up alongside your personal account. If you don't have PayPal, set it up here to get 1,000 points after you spend $5 in your first month.

Tips and tricks for making guides:

  • Consider how important the title is. There may be 6 guides for Paris already, but what makes your guide different than the others? Make this clear in the title. Best Restaurants in Paris versus Top Restaurants in Paris with Dish Recommendations for Exploring Authentic French Cuisine are two very different guides.
  • Set your price based on how detailed the guide is. If it is a quick list for a bar crawl, then keep the price low if you want it to sell. If you spend a long time creating a 10 day itinerary of a bike trip in northern Vietnam complete with recommendations on where to rent the the bike, what bike to rent, where to stay in each town, and what to eat up north, then this can be more expensive. Keep your prices competitive.
  • Do not use AI to generate ideas for you. That defeats the whole purpose of this website. Your guide will be taken down when AI use is detected to have generated the content.
  • Your guides will sell better if your profile is complete.
  • Adding your own pictures to your guides will make them more personable and appealing and will increase your credibility since it shows that you have been there. However, this is not a requirement and even just one picture will go far. If you use pictures, make sure they are public domain images or your own pictures.
  • Creating your guides with a bit of aesthetic appeal on Canva, for example, will also make them look more professional. You don't have to go crazy. A nice graphic for a header or border will suffice.
  • If you are setting up your store and you do not see your country listed as an option, please send an email (insightertrips@gmail.com), and I will add it. If you are from a country that does not support PayPal business accounts, please reach out via email and we can possibly configure an alternative.
